Watches are timepieces hat display the time and sometimes the day, date, month and year. A number of functions not directly related to time have also been inserted into watches. As miniaturized electronics became cheaper, watches have been developed containing calculators, video games, digital cameras, keydrives, gps receivers and cellular phones. Watches are available in various types like men wristwatches, women wristwatches, sports watch, waterproof watch, jewellery watch, antique jewellery vintage watch and pocket watches.

Watches display the time in either analog or digital way. Traditionally, watches have displayed the time in analog form, with a numbered dial upon which are mounted at least a rotating hour hand and a longer, rotating minute hand. Many watches also incorporate a third hand that shows the current second of the current minute. A digital display simply shows the time as a number, for example 4:10 pm instead of a short hand pointing towards the 4 and a long hand pointing towards 2 on a dial.

In past centuries, most watches were pocket watches, which had covers and were carried separately, often in a pocket and attached to a watch chain or fob. The time display is of analog type in pocket watches. Pocket watches are not common in modern times, today watches generally means wristwatches to be worn on the wrist and fastened with a watchband made of like leather, high quality resin, stainless steel, brass, sterling silver and gold or even ceramic.
