Barium sulphate is an inorganic chemical material used in several numbers of chemical industries. It is a white or colorless mineral and the main source of barium. Any soluble sulphate gives a white precipitate of barium sulphate.
barium sulphate is water insoluble and is available either as a powder or as a suspension. Large organic molecules, like gum arabic, pectin and methylcarboxycellulose can be added to give the suspension good characteristics such as easy flow, good mucosal adhesion without cracking, high radiographic density in thin layers, and lack of foaming. Antifoaming agents can be added as well.
barium sulphate is used in industries as an extender in the powder coatings, marine paints, can coatings, plastics, printing inks and cellular foams.
