Chromium (cr) is the chemical element that is widely applied in different manufacturing companies. This inorganic chemical is a steel-gray, lustrous and hard metal that takes a high polish and has a high melting point. Chromium is unstable in oxygen that immediately produces a thin layer, which is impermeable to oxygen and protects the metal below. As an alloy constituent, this chromium common compound is used in stainless steel in cutlery and in metallurgy to impart corrosion resistance and a shiny finish. In painting, dyeing and coloring the role of this chromium common compound is vital. This chemical industry material is what makes a ruby red, therefore used in producing synthetic rubies and color glasses. Chromites is preferred in the to make molds for the firing of bricks and also applied as a salt in the tanning of leather. Potassium dichromate is a chemical reagent, used in cleaning laboratory glassware and as a titrating agent. Chromium oxide is also applied to manufacture magnetic tape, where its higher coercivity gives better performance.
