Hydrogen (h) is a non-metal element. Hydrogen is very reactive so it can react with most elements. Chemical properties of hydrogen are colourless and has no smell. Hydrogen is the most abundant of all elements in the universe. On earth, hydrogen occurs chiefly in combination with oxygen in water, but it is also present in organic matter such as living plants, petroleum, coal, etc.
hydrogen is used in the manufacture of hydrochloric acid; it is also used in the wielding process, and in the reduction of metallic ores. Other uses include rocket fuel, and filling balloons. Large quantities of hydrogen are needed in the chemical and petroleum industries. Pollution-free hydrogen could replace natural gas, gasoline, etc., and could serve as a reducing agent in metallurgy, chemical processing, refining, etc.
