Mineral oil is chemically inert transparent colorless oil that is composed mainly of alkenes and cyclic paraffins. This petroleum product is available in light and heavy grades i.E. Light mineral oil and heavy mineral oil, and can often be found in drug stores. Mineral oil is used to store and transport alkali metals. The oil prevents the metals from reacting with atmospheric moisture. This mineral oil laxative is sometimes taken orally as a laxative that works by lubricating feces and the intestinal mucous membranes and limiting the amount of water removed from feces. Low viscosity mineral oil is sold as a preservative for wooden cutting boards and utensils and a coating of the oil excellent at protecting metal surfaces from moisture and oxidation. Pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries effectively this mineral oil cosmetic as an ingredient in baby lotions, ointments and in other products. Due to the medicinal properties, this chemical compound is applied for the treatment of eyelashes and can be helpful to prevent brittleness or the breaking of lashes.
