Medical thermometers that include infrared thermometer, mercury thermometer, clinical thermometer and others now come in digital and with different configuration so as to meet different needs that can also measure smaller to greater range of temperature in both fahrenheit and celsius scales. This versatile temperature thermometer may be mounted indoors or out to measure temperature and can be used in the laboratories.

Many thermometers contain mercury, a silver-colored liquid. Thermometers with a different colored liquid - usually red - contain alcohol, not mercury. Glass thermometers are extremely fragile and can be easily broken, allowing the mercury to escape. Accidental mercury releases in the home present some of the greatest poisoning risks to children. Digital thermometer and alcohol-filled thermometers are good substitutes for mercury thermometers. These thermometers do not pose a mercury poisoning threat.

Thermometers measure temperature, by using materials that change in some way when they are heated or cooled. In a mercury or alcohol thermometer the liquid expands as it is heated and contracts when it is cooled, so the length of the liquid column is longer or shorter depending on the temperature.

Automatic thermometers are used to measure temperature very fast easily and conveniently that come with different ranges with different scales and can display the temperature on the screen. This thermometer comes with variety of facilities including automatic switch-off system and the dry cell can be replaced easily. These automatic thermometers are ideal for the controlling of temperature in the vaccine shipments, clinics, and offices. For controlling different process in the machines and plants these thermometers are suitable.

Thermometers have wider and various types according to their construction and application like, deformation thermometer, electrical thermometer, gas thermometer, liquid-in-glass thermometer, liquid-in-metal thermometer, sonic thermometer, air thermometer, pc thermometer, bulb thermometer etc.

Deformation thermometers are commonly used in household thermostatic controls. A common type of deformation thermometer is the bimetallic thermometer. It also used in thermographs. Sonic thermometers based with wind sensors that measure the wind velocity. Industrial glass thermometers are ideal for industries for havc applications. Electrical thermometers commonly used in aircraft are the thermoelectric types for measuring engine-cylinder temperatures. They are also used for remote sensing. Gas thermometer is highly accurate with low ambient error, suitable for applications in the process, power and chemical industries.

Digital thermometer is most commonly used as temperature measuring instrument in the food industry. Digital thermometer is easier to read than glass thermometers, generally more accurate than the older dial-type thermometers based on bimetal coils. Digital thermometer has a great range of specialized uses and applications and tends to have a much quicker response-time. Digital thermometer is generally of two types: thermocouple digital thermometer and thermistor digital thermometer.
