Telescope is an arrangement of lenses or mirrors or both that gathers visible light, permitting direct observation or photographic recording of distant objects. A telescope is a device used in astronomy to magnify images or collect more light from distant objects by gathering and concentrating radiation. The telescope was one of the very first tools ever used to study outer space. This ability to see an image in space magnified has lead to countless discoveries in astronomy, beginning with the early and complicated classification of the planets, the sun, the stars and beyond. All modern telescopes are generally classified into two main categories, optical telescope and radio telescope. The most familiar kind of telescope is the optical telescope, which collects radiation in the form of visible light. Telescope consists of basic many parts they are optical tube assembly, eyepiece, focuser, finder, barlow lens, mount tripad, and reflector. The optical telescope works by utilizing one or more curved optical lenses or mirrors to gather light and electromagnetic radiation (although some work in the infrared and ultraviolet), then bringing that light or radiation into focus, making objects that are actually great distances away appear to be much closer. Optical telescope is used for astronomy and in many non-astronomical instruments including theodolites, transits, spotting scopes, monoculars, binoculars, camera lenses, and spyglasses. The basic types of telescope that pertains to the pursuits for astronomy are refractors, and the two main types of reflecting telescopes, the newtonian reflecting telescope and the schmidt-cassegrain. The other types of telescopes collect other kinds of radiation. Other kinds of telescopes are infrared telescope, ultraviolet telescope, x-ray telescopes, and gamma-ray telescopes. Telescopes are used in space industry, aerospace industry etc. Radio and optical telescope may be situated on the earth, since the earth's atmosphere allows light and radio waves through but absorbs radiation from several other regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. X-ray telescopes are placed in space. Radio telescope used to detect and observe distant objects by their emission, ransmission, reflection, or other interaction with invisible radiation. Radio telescope is directional radio antennae that often has a parabolic shape. The dishes are sometimes constructed of a conductive wire mesh whose openings are smaller than the wavelength being observed. X-ray and gamma-ray telescopes have a problem because these rays go through most metals and glasses. Some x-ray telescopes use ring-shaped glancing mirrors, made of heavy metals, that reflect the rays just a few degrees. The mirrors are usually a section of a rotated parabola. Gamma-ray telescopes give up on focusing entirely, and use coded aperture masks; the pattern of shadows the mask creates can be reconstructed to form an image. These types of telescopes are usually on earth-orbiting satellites or high-flying balloons, since the earth's atmosphere is opaque to this part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
