Electrical locomotives bore with modern and sophisticated electrical equipment and accessories.
Traction motors are using three phase ac electrical supply and are used both on dc and ac electrified railways with suitable control electronics. Battery to provide start up current and for supplying essential circuits, such as emergency lighting, incase line supply fails. Pantographs are provided to collect current from overhead lines. Camshafts are used to open or close the contactors controlling the resistance of the traction motor power circuit. Two types of circuit breakers like air blast and vacuum circuit breakers are provided to isolate the power supply incases of a fault or for maintenance.
The interior of a locomotive is equipped with an air management system, electronically controlled to keep all systems operating at the correct temperature. Thus, cooling fans are provided to keep the thyristors and other electronic power systems cool. Dynamic braking system using traction motors as generators, which provides the braking efforts. Converters to convert ac/dc supply, relays to protect the equipment against earthly damages, blowers for traction motors to lessen the heat in motor.
Apart from that notching relay, no-volt relay, over load relay, rectifiers, shoegear, transformer, transistors, wheelspin, contactors are equipped to locomotives.
