Dry cells have wide applications in power tools, calculators, watches, radios, video cameras and flashlights etc. They essentially comprised of a metal electrode or graphite rod (elemental carbon) surrounded by a moist electrolyte paste enclosed in a metal cylinder. Alkaline battery are available in primary and rechargeable and frequently used in calculators, cameras, portable radios, cassette players, and toys. Alkaline manganese batteries are used in flashlights, calculators, toys, clocks, smoke alarms, remote controls. They come in spectrum sizes and different volt ranges. Lithium battery are used for cameras, calculators, computer memory back-up etc. Nickel cadmium rechargeable cells are often used for calculators, radios, flashlights and computers. Silver oxide batteries are widely used for calculators, cameras and photo equipment, watches etc. Zinc-carbon or zinc-chloride batteries are heavy-duty batteries specially meant for flashlights, calculators, toys, clocks, smoke alarms, remote controls, transistor radios etc.
