Chokes are passive devices often used as storage if energy in switched power supply. Switched power supplies allow small size with high efficiency and stabilized output voltage. Linear chokes have applications in power electronic equipment, like switching power supplies, chopper amplifiers, dc drives and stepper motor controls etc. They can be used with direct current or with low frequency alternating current. Storage chokes, wound on iron-nickel powder cores, are mainly used as energy store in switching power supplies. Ground wire chokes are used to eliminate interference within a system caused by ground wire loops. Several peripherals, installed in different places of a building, connected with a central computer is a typical application. Magnetically compensated chokes are used in electronic equipment as interference suppression components.
