Electrical insulating boards are porous, usually fibrous sheets, which are used for dielectric and structural purposes in electrical apparatus. They are available in various thickness and sizes. Electrical insulating boards are used in the form of sheets, machined components and molded components in cylinders and caps; as runners and wedges; as spacers and duct strips; as angle rings and cap rings, etc. These boards have high mechanical strength even at high temperature and they have good machining properties. Electrical insulating boards are most commonly referred to as pressboard. Other terms used for electrical insulating boards include transformer board, fuller board, and presspan.
