A rotating machines used to control or apply force to another element is called a capstan. It comes with very accurate surface profile. Varieties of capstans, both freestanding and as an integral part of another unit are available in the market.
They also come with either one or two-way drives, and with a variety of head sizes and styles thus matching the customer's specifications. Capstans are used for marine, jetty, also found in the mechanisms of tape recorders, for raising heavy weights and for many other such industrial uses. Some capstans are designed to be maintenance free and some are also lubricated for life.
