Pumps are used throughout society for a variety of purposes. Early applications include the use of the water pumps to pump water. Today, pumps are used for irrigation, water supply, gasoline supply, air conditioning systems, refrigeration (usually called a compressor), chemical movement, sewage movement, flood control, marine services, etc.

Because of the wide variety of applications, pumps have a plethora of shapes and sizes from very large to very small, from handling gas to handling liquid, from high pressure to low pressure, and from high volume to low volume.

The different types of pumps are available in the market like axial pump, material-handling pump, centrifugal pumps, vacuum pumps, water pumps, diaphragm pumps, sewage pumps, submersible pumps, reciprocating pump, rotary pump and many other miscellaneous pumps for various different industrial purposes. These pumps are available in different size, speed, shape, model, capacity and function suiting various needs of the buyers. Some of these are designed to for long life with minimum maintenance. They are used in heavy oil production and recovery, in fire and flushing systems, to circulate cooling water in ships and for many other various different industrial applications. Submersible pumps have a hermetically sealed motor close-coupled to the pump body. The whole assembly is submerged in the fluid to be pumped. The advantage of submersible pumps are that it can provide a significant lifting force as it does not rely on external air pressure to lift the fluid.

Submersible pumps are found in many applications, single stage pumps are used for drainage, sewage pumping, general industrial pumping and slurry pumping. Multiple stage submersible pumps are typically lowered down a borehole and used for water abstraction or in water wells.

Sewage pumps are used to pump effluents, semi-solids, and small solids in a variety of commercial, industrial, maritime, municipal, and wastewater treatment applications. Sewage pumps are typically made of durable materials such as stainless steel.
