In the last half-century, scarf-wear has evoked an air of style, glamour, and sophisticated elegance. A scarf can accent or even change the entire look of an outfit giving it a unique flair that is you.

A scarf is a piece of fabric worn on or near the head or around the neck for warmth, cleanliness, fashion or for religious reasons. In the high-paced fashion world, the use of a scarf is not just restricted to tying on the heads but encompasses a wide range of usage. The young and the old, both use scarves as fashion accessory. While some use it for protection from inclement weather, others use it to create a different style. They may be hair scarves, beach scarves, football scarves or coat scarves.

In cold climates, a thick knitted scarf often of wool, is tied around the neck to keep warm. In drier, dustier climates, or in environments where there are many airborne contaminants, a thin headscarf is often worn over the head to keep the hair clean. Religions such as islam promote modest dress among women; many muslim women wear a headscarf often known as a hijab, and in quranic arabic as the khimar. Scarves have also gained popularity among female cancer patients who have experienced hair-loss as a result of chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.

The commonly used fabrics for making a scarf include silk, pashmina, crochet, cashmere, wool, velvet, chenille, cotton, satin, chiffon, rayon, polyester and georgette. Depending on the designs and utility, scarves are generally worn as head scarves, tying scarves, football scarves, hair scarves, winter scarves, beach scarves, coat scarves, turban scarves, neck scarves, hip scarves.
