• Biomass gasifiers changes solid biomass into gas by a process of partial pyrolysis in substoichiometric quantities of oxygen. The process produces in the formation of a mixture of gases called producer gas with calorific value of 1200 kcal/kg and having the following composition: h2 - 20%, co - 20%, ch4 - 2%, co2 - 12% and n2 - 46%. The gas is then cooled, cleaned and purified for use in burners for thermal energy applications and in ic engines for power generation. Any biomass such as wood, coconut shell, husk and fronds, groudnut husk, tapioca stems, etc can be applied in these gasifiers. The gasifiers are available in range of 20 kg/hr to 1100 kg/hr. The wood consumption is 3.5 kg/per it of diesel and 0.9 kg per kwh to 1.1 kg per kwh. The cost of produce of power is rs 2.60/kwh in the dual fuel mode and rs 1.50/kwh in the 100% gas mode. Specifications: capacity in heat output - 50,000 kcal/hr to 5,000,000 kcal/hr; capacity in electrical output - 18 kwe to 2,000 kwe; biomass consumption from 20 kg/hr to 2,000 kg/hr; thermal conversion efficiency - over 80% and electrical conversion efficiency - over 30%. Application: hot water and steam boilers, thermic fluid heaters, heat treatment furnaces, aluminium melting furnaces, kilns, driers, hot air generators, for elecrtrical enengy in the dual fuel mode etc. .
