   •  The magenta hexahydrate cobalt chloride is probably the most familiar cobalt compound in the laboratory. Cobalt chloride, cocl2.6h2o is easily hygroscopic in air, soluble in water, ethanol, aether and acetone. This particular chemical is widely used in plating, colouring for glass and ceramics. It is also a dry temperature indicator and ammonia absorbent. A popular use for cobalt chloride is for the detection of moisture, for example in drying agents such as silica gel. This chemical is also a reagent in most of the dyestuff industries.
