• Hot forging provides plastic forming of heated metals and alloys into desired shapes. Its die cost amounts to 10% to 15% of the forging cost. Any increase in the die life leads to the profitability of the forge shop. Die lubricants play three major roles: a) reduction in forging load; b) improvement in metal flow; and c) prevention of sticking of forged material to the die, hence increasing the die life. Furnace oil, used as a `lubricant' in forge shops does not give the reliable results. From the pollution point, its use should be avoided. Steel plant requires a range of die lubricants. Espon-dlo/v is a hot forging which increases die life, reduces forging load and prevents sticking of forgings into the die cavity. The producers of profile forgings, stainless steel and aluminium forgings find espon-dlo/v to be widely useful. The firm has produced graphite less lubricant for brass forgings and water miscible lubricants. .
